Intelligent Transportation Systems Research in Vietnam - Issues and Challenges
Over the recent years, big cities of Vietnam have witnessed rapid urbanization and a booming economy on one hand, and over-stretched city infrastructures, particularly the public traffic systems, on another. Vietnamese government is looking at ways in which it can use technology to effectively control traffic. The urban traffic in Vietnam is unique in that it is predominantly made up of 2-wheelers. Therefore, solutions that have been widely deployed in other countries might not be very effective in Vietnamese traffic conditions. This talk will identify a wide range of issues that currently exist in Vietnamese urban traffic systems and raise the challenges that traffic researchers have to face in order to have effective solutions in Vietnamese context.
Biography
Dr. PHAM, Tran Vu got his PhD degree from the University of Leeds, UK. He is now a Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City of Technology, in charge of academic affairs. His research focus is multi-disciplinary by utilizing information technology, i.e. distributed systems, to solve practical problems in real life. His earlier research was on developing a distributed computing infrastructure to facilitate the collaborations among distributed members of scientific community. He then focused on developing an ontology for describing the various components of multimedia performing arts for the purpose of preserving the performances. He is now interested in developing as well as applying big data techniques and tools to solve urban traffic problems in Vietnam.
